Register a business name online today

This service includes business name registration with the Companies Registration Office (CRO) which is legally required should you trade under a name different from your own name. Business names are not restricted by the CRO, so there is no need to check the name against the register.

There are 3 situations in which you may want to register a business name online when starting a business:

1. Sole Trader – To start operating as a sole trader in Ireland you must be a tax resident with a business address in the Republic of Ireland.
2. Partnership – Partnerships must have two or more owners. Similar to a sole trader the owners must have a business address in the Republic of Ireland.
3. Limited Company Business Name – A Limited company can register multiple business names to operate various aspects of the businesses under one company. Also known as trading name(s).
