According to the Office for Harmonisation of Internal markets (OHIM) in Europe, 2010 is expected to complete with record figures for Community trade mark applications and with improved performance in timeliness in a number of important areas.
The office has reported that The total number of CTM applications is currently on track to reach around 98,000,which is 10% higher than in the pre-recession year of 2007, and the highest demand ever seen by the Office.
The office further reports that the number of registered Community designs being applied for also recovered during the year, and the final figure is expected to reach around 80,000, indicating that designs are also “holding their own”. For designs, the Service Charter timeliness objective was met and slightly exceeded.
As a result of the increased pace of CTM oppositions, the Boards of Appeal experienced a major increase in the number of appeals filed. Nevertheless, the Boards closed more cases and made more decisions than the previous year.
